'TWILIGHT' FILMING UNDERWAY IN KALAMA

The filming of the movie “Twilight” is underway in Kalama, about 35 miles north of Portland. The fictional story of the international best-selling book is set in Forks.

Kalama High School students are posting short video clips on YouTube.com and random digital photos of actors and location filming.

Kalama High was chosen for its close proximity to the principal filming locations in Portland, and because the brick front walls of the schools look like the front of Forks High School, though on a much larger scale.

Digital photos posted on the Internet show a prop Forks High School sign has been placed on the front of Kalama High School, and a Spartans booster poster hanging on the wall of the Kalama gym.

“Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke told the Forks Forum earlier this year that the film company chose Portland over Forks due to a package of financial incentives offered by the state of Oregon.

The look of scenes in Portland and Kalama in unofficial digital photos posted on the Internet have an urban look compared to the actual Forks locations used by author Stephenie Meyer in her best-selling “Twilight” series of books.

Apparently, the stars of the film will be on the West End for only a few days of filming. Casting call e-mails looking for experienced surfers are arriving in Forks, and give location shooting dates at LaPush somewhere within the time frame of April 23-25.

A Kalama student posted this message on the www.twilightlexicon.com Website on Tuesday, March 18: “Filming continues throughout the week at Kalama in their labs, gym, cafeteria and of all places believe it or not, their wrestling room. The hospital scene will be shot there later this week.”
