A Neighborhood Watch meeting was held by the Clallam County Sheriff's Department at the Clallam Bay Library on Tuesday, Jan. 24 with 27 residents attending.
In attendance from the Sheriff’s Office were Sgt. King, Sgt. Pieper, Deputy Cortani, Code Enforcement Officer Mark Butler, Community Policing Volunteer Al Camin and event organizer Clallam County Sheriff's Office's Community Patrol Services Coordinator Lorraine Shore.
Shore said the aim of the meeting was to make Clallam Bay/Sekiu safer communities. She said there was interest in holding a Map Your Neighborhood Meeting in the future. Map Your Neighborhood is a 90 minute class designed to organize residents to respond in the first hour of a disaster when lives can be saved by quick action. This program is scheduled through the Clallam County Emergency Management office. To schedule a class call (360) 417-2483 or send at email to Penny Linterman at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Neighborhood Watch signs are placed in windows of homes, along roads and in other locations and are an inexpensive crime prevention tool and have proven to deter crime, Shore said.
