Sarge’s Place is a big step closer to opening for returning and homeless veterans and their families.

Cheri Fleck, president of the North Olympic Regional Veteran’s Housing Network, announced on Wednesday, Nov. 17 that funds for buying the building and land that will house the veteran’s center are now in place.

Fleck said in an email announcing the completion of the purchase of the Peterson Building in Forks: "It is with great happiness that I write this email to you. Wow….it seems unbelievable…three years ago, this seemed like such a dream to help Veterans on the Peninsula.  And here we are, on November 17, 2010, with a signed purchase and sale agreement for the building which will serve as Sarge’s Place. What a wonderful day it is."

A groundbreaking date for refurbishing the two-story building is to be announced soon.
