Weather could turn nasty come Sunday night, Monday

National Weather Service issues alert

… A STRONG PACIFIC LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MAY BRING A VARIETY OF WEATHER HAZARDS TO WESTERN WASHINGTON SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY…

A RELATIVE PERIOD OF QUIET WEATHER IS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH MUCH OF TONIGHT. ON SATURDAY… A SOMEWHAT STRONGER SYSTEM WILL SPREAD RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW INTO THE AREA. THE MOUNTAINS COULD GET ADVISORY SNOW AMOUNTS IN THE 4 TO 8 INCH RANGE… LOCALLY HIGHER. THERE WILL BE LITTLE BREAK BETWEEN THIS SYSTEM AND THE NEXT MUCH STRONGER STORM EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE AREA SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY.

THE LATEST COMPUTER MODELS SUGGEST A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MAY DEVELOP OFF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST SUNDAY AS IT BARRELS TOWARD WESTERN WASHINGTON. IF THIS SYSTEM DOES INDEED TRACK TOWARD WESTERN WASHINGTON… IT WILL PRODUCE A VARIETY OF WEATHER AND MARINE RELATED IMPACTS TO WESTERN WASHINGTON LATE SUNDAY AND MONDAY. STRONG WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA… ALONG WITH HEAVY MOUNTAIN SNOW… AND RAIN IN THE LOWLANDS. TIDES WILL ALSO RUN HIGH DURING THIS PERIOD AND LARGE COASTAL SWELL ABOVE 20 FEET IS ALSO EXPECTED. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY ON THE TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM. IF THE SURFACE LOW PRESSURE MOVES FURTHER SOUTH INTO OREGON… THE WIND AND HEAVY MOUNTAIN SNOW THREAT WILL BE MITIGATED.

CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST STATEMENTS AND FORECAST FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE REGARDING THE LATE WEEKEND STORM SYSTEM. WEATHER SERVICE STORM SPOTTERS SHOULD ALSO REMAIN ALERT OF UPCOMING CHANGES TO THE WEATHER.
