A fire badly damaged a shake mill south of Forks on Friday evening July 28. Mill owner George Powers told the Forks Forum that the fire department was able to save a forklift and some of the inventory that was on site. Clallam County Fire District#1 Chief Bill Paul said that the fire cause is undetermined at this time and no one was at the mill at the time. Paul also stated that Forks and Beaver departments responded as well as personnel from CCFD#6 (Three Rivers) were on scene. DNR wildfire crew members also were on scene preventing the fire from spreading into the brush, Paul said. “We had a small rekindle fire on Saturday,” Paul said, “We responded and addressed it quickly.” Powers shared that he is extremely thankful for the quick action of the firefighters, “I want to thank them for saving what they could, it is a setback but I am thankful for what was saved.”
