“Expand Your Garden, Asexual Propagation Through Cuttings”

by Iris Fagerland, Thursday, October 12, 2023

If you adore your plants and want more of them, join local nursery owner Iris Fagerland for the Green Thumb Education Series presentation “Expand Your Garden, Asexual Propagation Through Cuttings,” and find out how you can reproduce and share more of the plants you love.

While many plants replicate from seeds, others can be reproduced by parts of a parent plant such as their stems, roots or leaves. Iris will delve into the various forms of plant propagation to help you multiply your plants with the techniques, tricks and hard-won experience she’s developed over years of trial and error.

Iris began her gardening career about the same time she was learning how to walk. Her mother Terri taught her how to collect and identify seeds, then made a game of memorizing which seeds would grow into what plants, how deep to plant them, when to plant them, and what kind of light was needed for each. These early childhood games deeply imbued a love of nature and plant lore that would last a lifetime. Now, 40 years later, Iris owns Earth Grown Creations, a nursery in Port Orchard with over 20,000 plants, specializing in perennial flowers, shrubs, trees and herbs. Iris proudly grows and propagates all 1400 varieties of her own nursery stock. For more information, visit www.EarthGrownCreations.com.
