John Joel Dahlgren of Forks WA, tragically passed away on the morning of October 2, 2023, while on his way to work. He was 69 years old. He was born April 2, 1954, in Forks to Joel and Ingrid Dahlgren. John’s upbringing involved early involvement on the family farm and in the family shop, instilling a strong work ethic from a young age.
He showed a strong academic aptitude, particularly excelling in history and math during his school years. During his high school days, he played football and basketball, was ASB president, and earned the privilege of attending a leadership camp at Gonzaga University, a notable honor. He graduated from Forks High School in 1972.
Following high school, John joined his father and brother, Pete, and worked his entire life in the family business, Dahlgren Logging. In 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Micheau, and together, they raised three children. They were married for 36 years until her passing in 2010.
John dedicated his life to his family and work. He consistently left for work before sunrise and returned home late in the evening. Even then his work was far from finished, as he had phone calls to make and plans to formulate for the next day. His friends and crew held him in high esteem, recognizing his remarkable work ethic and unwavering integrity, and considered him one of the greatest loggers of all time.
John is survived by his 3 children: Christi Dahlgren, Carrie (Jonas) Merrill, and John Dahlgren, and his 2 grandchildren, Lillian and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother, Pete (Cheri) Dahlgren, sister JoMarie (Butch) Miller, brother-in-law Jerry Marlar, cousin Dave (Carmen) Larson, numerous nieces and nephews, and his friend, Julie Mansfield.
Sadly, he experienced the loss of his father, Joel, less than 3 months ago, his beloved wife Cheryl 13 years ago, his younger sister Linda in 2020 and his mom in 2009.
There will be a celebration of life on November 4th at 1 PM at the Dahlgren Logging shop, 1665 Bogachiel Way in Forks.
