The lap pool at the Forks Aquatic Center is being refilled with water about five years after the pool center was shuttered due to the high cost of operating the facility. Quillayute Valley Parks & Recreation Boardmember Don Grafstrom made the announcement on Wednesday morning Nov. 16 at the weekly meeting of the West End Business & Professional Assoc. He said the Seattle-based pool technician who mothballed the pool is scheduled to inspect the filled lap pool on Thursday. The hot tub and recreation pool adjoining the lap pool have been covered with a light layer of concrete set atop large blocks of styrofoam, and a rubber floor covering has been placed over that section of the aquatic center. In addition, a tall wall now divides the two sections. Fitness instructor Ruby Swaggerty has begun holding fitness classes in the center and plans to greatly expand the fitness program in the near future.
