This week in 1999 Seattle TV news stations were in Neah Bay covering the Makah whale hunt. The Forks Police Department was cracking down on un-buckled kids.

Fifty years ago this week the Forks High School Home Building Class was holding an open house for their latest project in Manfield Addition. A photo of some of the class members had appeared on the front page (photo). Members of the FHS Track team were heading to state competition (photo). A ‘soul and funk’ group “Shades of Jade” was appearing at the Vagabond. Forks teachers were looking for a dunk tank.

In 1952 the “Big Log” tourist attraction, downtown next to the Oddfellows Hall, had recently had a big slab fall off. Members of the Garden Club were already on it and looking for another “Big Log” to replace it. Wiley Benson Duncan had passed at the age of 75. He had been born in Kansas in 1876 and came to the Quillayute Prairie around 1928. He was living with his son Perry at the time of his death. He had been a cattleman and a cowboy all his life. A military funeral had been held for PFC Arthur J. Munson Jr. at the Quillayute Cemetery. Munson had been born on the West End around 1930 and was killed in a military accident in Germany.
