Alton Dean Jones -May 15, 1943- May 11, 2024

Alton Dean Jones, 80, passed away on May 11, 2024, in Kingston, WA.

Son of Eunice Lorraine Jones (Cochran) and Alton Harold Jones, of Forks, WA, he was born May 15, 1943, in Jackson, MI. Dean graduated from Forks High School in 1961 and then went on to pursue his college education. He attended several colleges and universities then ultimately ended up at Eastern Washington University where he graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism. He met the love of his life and best friend Judith Stoker at Sol Duc Hot Springs. They were married in 1965 and happily married for 59 years.

After college Dean went on to have a successful career in television news. It all started in the fall of 64’ he took a job at KXLY as a rock and roll disc jockey to help pay for his school. After receiving his degree, he continued working at KXLY where he found his love of television news and debuted on his first broadcast for KXLY channel 4 news on New Year’s Eve 1967.

From his debut he went on to become a news anchor for KATU channel 2 in Portland, OR where he continued his profession for many years until it was time to make a move back to Washington State. In 1977, Dean and his family moved to Kingston, WA where he worked for KOMO News 4 in Seattle.

Once there he realized he wanted to go on his own and made the choice to start DJ and Company in 1978, he went on to have an accomplished business creating promotional videos and commercials for many companies including The Coca-Cola Company, Wilcox Family Farms, Lumbermen’s, Bob Moawad and the Edge Learning Institute, UniSea, and The Boeing Company just to name a few. His wisdom in creating the best marketing productions for these organizations made him the ideal company to work with.

In the community, Dean played many roles from becoming the North Kitsap school board president to coaching youth sports and volunteering in the community. He was always there to support the young members of the area guiding them to greatness.

Dean was happiest spending time with his family, watching the Mariners and Seahawks and of course, working. He loved to fish and discuss current and historical events.

He was preceded to heaven by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife and mother of his children, Judith Jones of Kingston, WA; their children: Aaron Jones of Chehalis, WA, Bryan Jones and Wife Makinlee of Las Vegas, NV, Stephanie Carter and husband Kyle of Las Vegas, NV; Eight grandchildren: Morgan Jones, Montana Carter, Andrea Jones, Colorado Carter, Daisy Carter, Courtney Jones, River Jones and Hawk Jones; Two great grandchildren Ryker and Beau and his Sister Judi Bagby of Azle, TX.

While we lost our most beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and brother, many have lost a friend and colleague. His dedication to his work and his family was incredible. He has been our supporter, a master of public speaking, and a role model. Certainly, his laugh was one to love. There was so much more to him than just husband and dad, though to us that was his greatest role he was an inspiration to all who knew him, and his memory and legacy will live on.

The Jones family invites you to join them at a Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 1:30 pm-4:30 pm at the Kingston Yacht Club 25815 Washington Blvd NE, Kingston, WA 98346.
