Donald R. Moore, 90, of Hoquiam, WA passed away on May 18, 2024 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Don was born to Ida and Nick Petrovich in Iron Mountain, Michigan. The family moved west and he graduated from Forks High School in 1951. After high school, Don served as a sergeant in the US Army in Korea from 1953-1955. Following his military service, Don lived and worked in Forks, WA where he was employed in the forestry industry by Rayonier, Inc. and Milwaukee Land Company as a timber cruiser and land surveyor. Don moved to Hoquiam in the 1980s and also served as a forester for the City of Hoquiam for several years.
Don is survived by three children that he cherished as the best part of his life; Steve Moore of Forks, Debra Huggins (Albert) of Forks and Donella Rogers of Lewiston, Idaho. He is also survived by a special friend, Denise Burke, of Hoquiam. Don has one surviving sister, Ann Petrovich Riggins of Belton, Missouri and nine grandchildren including; Kaylan Kimball, Stephanie Huggins, Andrew Huggins and Dallas Huggins, all of Forks. He is also survived by Jordan Orrell, Natalie Orrell, Nick Rogers, Jack Rogers and Kate Rogers; and ten great-grandchildren.
Don was an avid sportsman, clamming, hunting and fishing throughout the Pacific Northwest. He leaves a wonderful legacy of generosity, kindness and caring for others most often serving quietly behind the scenes.
Please join Don’s family for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 29 from 2-4 p.m., at the Hoquiam Senior Center, 403 Simpson Ave., Hoquiam. Light refreshments will be served.
