This week in 1999 new staff was coming to Forks Community Hospital and Bogachiel Clinic. Dr. Gary Harmon was hired as a general surgeon and Tony Ruiz was hired as Assistant Administrator of Support Services. After over three weeks of being closed the road around Lake Crescent was open again at Govan Falls! Naomi Cowles and her dog Lucky were State Champions (photo). Dean McCoy had bowled a 300 game, the first in 10 years at Sunset Lanes. Dean was on the Clark’s Vagabond team. Lawrence Gaydeski had been selected as Pioneer Logger. Inez Haverson with West End Business and Professional Association had presented him with the award (photo). Clallam Bay-Sekiu had held a “Walk for Life” to benefit the Cancer Fund. Cherrie and Cora had taken part in the walk (photo).

In 1974 the Spartans had won a thriller football game against South Bend with a score 7-6. They were looking to next face #1 Raymond. It was reported that there was an Anthrax outbreak in the county, authorities found the source was imported goat hair saddle pads.

In 1952 the community was mourning longtime resident Charlie McCarthy. McCarthy had come to Forks in 1922 working in the pulp industry for two years. He then purchased the Richfield gas station at the corner of Main Street and Bogachiel Way. He was a friend to many log truck drivers, staying open late to help them get back on the road. McCarthy was just 51 years old when he died from a heart attack. The VFW had held an event to honor Gold Star Mothers. Those recognized were Grace Fletcher, Fern Wittenborn, and Ivy Price. The Bogachiel Garden Club had met at the home of Mrs. Frank Henry.
