The spirit of giving will come alive on Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., as the Congregational Church at 280 Spartan Ave. hosts the annual Operation Christmas Child Community Packing Party. Local families, children, and adults alike are invited to come to pack shoeboxes filled with gifts and essentials for children in need around the world.
Operation Christmas Child, an international effort run by Samaritan’s Purse, collects shoeboxes packed with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items to deliver to children who may never have received a gift. Participants are encouraged to bring their own shoebox fillers if they wish, but organizers assure there will be plenty of items available to make each box unique. From the basics to small toys and notes of encouragement, each shoebox is carefully packed to bring a smile to a child’s face.
“We welcome everyone in the community to join us,” said an event organizer Deborah Dillon. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together, share in the holiday spirit, and remind children around the world that they are loved and remembered.”
Attendees will be able to add personal touches to their boxes with cards or coloring pages, sharing messages of hope and kindness. Christmas music will fill the room, videos will showcase the work of Operation Christmas Child, and there may even be a Christmas cookie or two to enjoy while packing!
All ages are encouraged to attend this free event, where a small gesture can make a big impact.
