Clallam County Genealogical Society’s Fall Seminar Features “The Legal Genealogist” Judy G. Russell

Genealogy enthusiasts have a unique opportunity to delve into the historical and legal landscapes that shaped their ancestors’ lives at the Clallam County Genealogical Society’s Fall Seminar on Nov. 9. This highly anticipated three-part Zoom event will feature Judy G. Russell, JD, CG, also known as “The Legal Genealogist.” Russell is celebrated for her compelling approach to genealogy through a legal lens, making her an in-demand speaker at both national and local genealogical events.

With a background in law and years of genealogical research experience, Russell explores the often-overlooked legal frameworks that impacted past generations. “Without understanding the context in which events took place, and the records that were created, we miss so much of both the significance and flavor of what happened,” Russell says.

The event will include three sessions:

9:45-10:45 a.m. Session I: Revelers, Hog Killers, and Disobedient Children: Early State Laws

11:00 a.m.-Noon Session II: Landing the Ancestors: Federal and State Land Records

12:45-1:45 p.m. Session III: Proving a Case with Court, Land, and DNA Evidence

The seminar will be hosted virtually, allowing participants to join from home or attend a group viewing at the CCGS Research Center in Port Angeles, where refreshments will be provided. Registration fees are $50 for CCGS and Washington State Genealogical Society members, and $55 for non-members.

Registration, which closes Nov. 5, can be completed via check or PayPal on the CCGS website, www.clallamcogs.org. The Zoom meeting details will be sent upon payment. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with history and enrich your family research journey!
