It was clear to me that JLynn was nervous about taking a speech and debate elective this year. There is no doubt that public speaking is scary—and even more so in front of peers. However, JLynn has embraced the elective at full stride. Despite the fears, JLynn has braved through numerous public speaking and debating activities already this year without losing heart. I am extremely impressed by her willingness to bravely embrace the tasks given to her.

Deanthony has really been pushing himself out of his comfort zone this whole school year and has been using it to demonstrate fantastic leadership.

Rayna Dawkins
I have nominated Rayna Dawkins as a Student of Character in recognition of her character trait of Bravery because she exudes qualities of courageousness, integrity, daring, and meekness. Rayna demonstrates her courageousness and integrity by choosing to show up and make the best of her day, everyday. She has decided to do this regardless of what her friends or peers are saying or doing, and often despite them. Every day, you can count on getting Rayna’s best and it takes a lot of courage to face each day that way. Furthermore, Rayna is daring; in my experience with her, she consistently takes on new challenges and pushes herself to achieve more than is even asked of her. She faces adversity and the unknown with a stiff upper lip and quiet resolve that is admirable and uncommon for a person of her age. Finally, Rayna displays the estimable attribute of meekness, which I believe is the bravest thing she does. Having meekness means that she has the strength and capacity to overpower others (both physically and mentally) but chooses to not use it. Instead, she treats people around her with compassion, kindness, respect, and helpfulness. Her kind of bravery isn’t one that is flamboyant or even often recognized, instead it is a demure kind of bravery that tacitly makes this world a better place.

In my eyes, Patricia is a very BRAVE young lady. She isn’t afraid of getting in and learning amongst a bunch of show off boys. She is a great example of knowing what she is interested in and not letting others influence her. For this I would like to nominate her for the BRAVE (SOC)!!!

Amari is one brave young lady. She pushes herself to go above and beyond what she thinks she’s capable of. She works hard on the soccer field, in school, and at home. Amari, I am so proud of you and the way you push yourself to do what you have to do so you can get where you want to be. Thank you for being you!

Brave is likely a word Angel wouldn’t have used to describe herself during her freshman year—perhaps not even during her sophomore year. By the end of her junior year, though, she may have begun to see a glimpse of that bravery, and I hope that this year, when she looks in the mirror, it’s the first thing she recognizes. Angel, you are strong and courageous, and you’re stepping out of your comfort zone to create opportunities for yourself and for this school. Thank you for making this a wonderful place to be, and most importantly, thank you for being you!

Zoie, I can’t express enough how brave I think you are after all the effort you put into organizing the junior class skit and airband. You navigated challenges with grace and brought everyone together—even when I may have been “a bit much.” You took direction, turned it into leadership, and built something beautiful! I feel so fortunate to work alongside a student like you. Thank you for being yourself and for allowing your courage to shine when it matters most!

I want to take a moment to recognize your incredible bravery in overcoming challenges and your overall commitment during homecoming week. Your hard work has not only made this event a success, but it has also created memories that will last a lifetime for the entire student body. The energy and enthusiasm you brought to every activity inspired everyone around you- homecoming was a week to remember, and that is because of all of you! Thank you for your commitment to FHS. Thank you for building memories. Thank you for getting other students involved. And thank you for making this a wonderful year so far. Our assemblies have been incredibly engaging and that is because of all of you! Thank you all for being brave and showing everyone what it truly means to be a SPARTAN!
