December 31, 1943- November 22, 2024
Elbert Paul Hampton, long time Forks resident, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on November 22, 2024, following a car accident. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. He will be missed greatly.
Known by all that loved him as Paul, he was born to Clyde and Annie Hampton on December 31, 1943, in Ocala, Fl. He attended Ocala High School, graduating in 1961. He worked with his dad in general contracting before enlisting in the Navy in 1964, serving in Vietnam and stateside. He remained active in drilling and training until December 1991 and retired in March of 1992. His service to his country was a source of pride and he continued to serve well past his retirement date by volunteering with organizations that benefit veterans such as the VFW and Sarge’s Place.
On May 24, 1966, Paul married his wife of 58 years, Elsie. After leaving active service in the Navy, Paul took a job with the Forest Service in Florida. Paul and Elsie welcomed three children to their family and moved to Washington in 1976, eventually settling in Forks, WA where Paul took a job with the Department of Natural Resources. Paul had a long career with the DNR, serving in several roles and working on fire crews. He retired from the DNR in 2004 but continued to periodically perform contract work for several years after. Paul was active in the Forks Community as a longtime member of the local Elks Lodge, serving in several roles in the local, district and state leadership. He was passionate about the Tall Elks Therapy Program and completed 1000 miles on his bike to raise funds to support the program. Paul also volunteered many hours during the holidays as Santa delivering presents to kids and seniors in care centers.
Paul was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister, Annie. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, and their beloved dog, Thor; three children, Shannon Page, Charity Lawson (Tim), and Clyde Paul Hampton (Kerstin); sister, Mary Guna (David), 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service is planned for January 11, 2025, at the Forks Elks Lodge. Details will be shared by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the charitable organizations that Paul supported such as Elks Charitable Projects, VFW, and Sarge’s Place.
