A three-vehicle collision Saturday evening, June 11 closed for over six hours the westbound land of Highway 101 near milepost 207 at Bear Creek.

Four persons were injured. There were no fatalities. The Washington State Patrol report released Sunday morning, June 12, described the accident. A 2001 Ford F350 pickup towing a flatbed trailer driven by Charles Bos, 33, of Forks was headed eastbound on Highway 101, driving behind a 1973 21-foot-long Toyota motor home driven by Ted Davis, 56, of California. A 1995 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Stephen Ungerecht, 18, of Bothell was behind the Ford pickup. The driver of the Ford pickup started to pass the motor home, the driver of the Toyota Tacoma pickup also pulled out to pass the motor home. Then driver of the Toyota Tacoma struck the Ford pickup and lost control of his vehicle, according to the WSP report, and the Tacoma rotated and also struck the motor home. Both the Tacoma and the motor home went off Highway 101, and the Tacoma rolled, while the motor home struck two trees.

Ungerecht received an arm injury, and the Tacoma was totaled. His passenger, Anna Engelberger, 17, of Germany, also received an arm injury. Both were transported to Forks Community Hospital. The Tacoma was totaled.

Bos and a passenger were not injured, and was able to drive his Ford pickup from the scene.

Davis received face and arm injuries and was taken to the Forks hospital. His passenger, Melanie Davis, 48, also of California, received an ankle injury and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The motor home was totaled and taken to the WSP bullpen in Port Angeles.

The westbound lane of Highway 101 was partially blocked with officers directing alternating streams of traffic for 6.5 hours.

A decision to press charges in the collision is pending.

Both lanes of Highway 101 were reopened at 4:36 a.m. on Sunday morning.
