Volunteers needed to help with community event

RainFest 2012 – April 20-22

RainFest, a West Olympic Council for the Arts sponsored event is fast approaching. Organizers are searching for anyone and everyone that might be interested in helping organize events such as the Umbrella Decorating Workshop and Umbrella Parade during RainFest. If you are interested and would like to be involved please contact Pat Soderlind or Rod Fleck.

“The Supper” quilt exhibit is coming to the West Olympic Council on the Arts’ 2012 RainFest celebration.

The quilt portrays Leonardo DiVinci’s famous painting of Christ and the apostles at the Last Supper. Waxahachie, Texas dentist Don Locke created the incredibly intricate quilt by piecing together 51,816 squares of half-inch cotton. The quilt is 67 inches high and 183 inches wide.

DiVinci created his painting some 500 years ago on the wall of a Dominican Cloister in Milan, Italy.

The quilt is the showpiece of the Piecemakers Quilt Club’s annual Fabric of the Forest Quilt Show. The event is held during the Rainfest Celebration. “The Supper” quilt is scheduled to be on display at the Forks Congregational Church on Spartan Ave. on Friday, April 20 from noon to 6 p.m., on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, April 22 from noon to 4 p.m.
