With a deadline of the end of July to respond to the Federal Aviation Administration, officers and supporters of the West End Thunder  drag racing organization are continuing to attend City Council meetings.

At stake is the future of summertime drag racing at Forks Municipal Airport.

The organization is in its last year of a deal with the FAA that has allowed one-eighth mile drag races at the airport for the past several years.

The Council is expected to vote on a plan brought forth by the West End Thunder organization for the future of the airport at its next meeting, scheduled for Monday, evening July 25. One option under discussion would close the airport as an official FAA airport and possibly build a new drag strip just west of the existing runways.

A lease was approved for Port Angeles businessman Shane Miller, the president of Prudential Information Corporation, doing business as Call Centers 24×7 for space in the City of Forks’ West End Business and Technology Center located at 71 North Spartan Avenue. Office space is 404 square feet. Miller is returning after having Forks employees work in Port Angeles for several years. About four employees will now be able to skip the long commute.
