Clallam County Fire District #5 and the Port of Port Angeles recenlty entered into a lease agreement and memorandum of undertstanding for locating a fire station at the Sekiu Airport.
The Fire District #5 was actively seeking a location on the West End of its jurisdiction up and out of the Strait of Juan de Fuca tsunami zone, and across the Falls Creek Bridge, the district reports. The station was needed especially for emergency situations such as when mud slides cross Highway 112, blocking access to the Clallam Bay fire station and other emergency services to the east for the citizens of Sekiu.
Members of Fire District #5 are assisting the Port of Port Angeles with the day-to-day inspections and lawn care of the airport, which is located on a rise north of Highway 112. The Sekiu Airport now houses a fire engine, a brush/wildland fire truck and an ambulance.
The Sekiu Airport Station (known as Station 2 within Fire District #5) is one of two fire Stations located in Clallam Bay/Sekiu. The fire district’s Station 1 is located on Eagle Crest Way, just off of Highway 112 in Clallam Bay, housing a fire engine, a rescue/wild land fire truck and an ambulance.
