Age 90 Long time Forks Resident
Lee spent her early childhood growing up in North Dakota. Her family then moved to Salem, Oregon. She and her 5 siblings picked fruit and vegetables and made enough money to buy their folks a nice big house and we all have fond memories of visiting and staying there.
Lee had a passion for nursing and worked at the Forks Hospital. She then worked for Dr. Leibold. Many of her friends remember her fondly and have stories of her wonderful care. Raising our own families, we felt like we had a 24-hour nurse on call 24-hourr the need arose.
Lee was also known for her baking skills and her cinnamon rolls were historic! At any potluck, her dishes were the first to be devoured. Lee was also a member of the local quilting club for many years. Her family treasures her beautiful artwork.
Lee married Jack Merrick on August 24, 1948, celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary last summer. Together they had five children-Diane Kitchel (deceased), Cheryl Carter, Pati Brooks, Duane Merrick, and Daryl Merrick. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Forks-Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or to breast cancer or Parkinson’s Disease research. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 17, at 1 p.m. at the Lutheran Church, 250 N. Blackberry Ave., with a reception to follow.
