Beverly Borde passed away on August 19, 2017, at the age of 84, after battling Alzheimers. Born to Earl Wheeler and Ethelyn Wheeler(Hague) on New Year’s Day, 1933, Beverly was one of six children who grew up on a farm in northwestern Pennsylvania.
Deciding that the farm life was not for her, after graduation from high school, she enrolled in nursing school at Cleveland Hospital and received a degree as a registered nurse.
Seeking adventure, she and her sister hitched a ride to Idaho with an aunt and uncle and eventually ended up in Seattle where they both landed jobs in hospitals.
It was in a Seattle hospital that she met a patient, Phil Borde, and fell in love. They married in 1955, and after Phil graduated from college moved to Forks, Washington, where they raised their family of 3 children and lived until November 2012. Beverly worked at the Forks hospital, to begin with, then started working in Dr. Liebold’s family practice. She continued working there until she retired. Many Forks residents probably remember receiving their vaccinations from Bev.
A devoted Christian, Beverly was a long time member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Forks and served in many capacities including a period of time as organist. She established many long term friendships in the church and was a dedicated member.
Undoubtedly her greatest joy was when she finally became a grandmother, and she eagerly accepted the role of babysitter. At least once a week, she would drive from Forks to Port Angeles to babysit her grandsons Andrew and Adam and loved every minute of it.
When Beverly’s Alzheimers progressed and Phil’s health declined, they moved to Port Angeles to be closer to family. Eventually, Bev was moved into Dungeness Courte Memory Care, where she has spent the last two years.
The family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff at Dungeness Courte for the compassionate and professional care that she has received. Their expertise helped Beverly and her family navigate this difficult period of time in her life. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, sister Shirley Chiles, brothers Merwin, Bob, Jerry Wheeler, and her husband Phil.
She is survived by her children Kevin (Renee), Brian (Julie), and Kim Habel (Don), brother Gayle Wheeler, and two grandsons, Andrew and Adam.
