SIGN-UPS
Last chance for T-ball and Rookie sign-ups will take place from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at the Duncan baseball fields. T-ball is for ages 5 and up. Children must be 5 by Aug. 31. Rookies are ages 7-8. For more information, contact Kim at 360-640-0777 or Amber at 360-640-4847. You must contact commissioners if unable to sign up by April 26. The cost is $35 at sign-up.
Dance Lessons
Friday night
Dance lessons will be held Friday, April 27 at Congregational Church Fellowship Hall. Lessons begin at 7 p.m.
New dancers are always welcome, invite your friends! No experience is necessary, and the lessons are free.
Cheerleader Sign-ups
Forks Youth Cheerleading sign-ups will be held on Monday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m., at Pacific Pizza in the back room. Students who will be in grades 2-7 in the fall of 2018 can sign up. There is a registration fee of $35 that is due at the time of sign ups. This goes towards insurance, snacks for the games and the end of the season party. Candlelight Vigil
The Hoh Tribe, Peninsula College and West End Tribal Partners invite you to join them for, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s Candlelight Vigil, on Saturday, May 5 from 7-9 p.m. at the Forks Branch of Peninsula College. Wear Red in Support of MMIW #NationalDayofAwareness.
Judges Needed
Community members are needed to judge the Forks High School senior projects. The presentations will be May 1-3. If you are interested in being a judge, please contact the FHS Counseling Center at shannon.haberzettl@qvschools.org, or at 360-374-6262 x263. Judges are needed for both morning (8:30-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1-3 p.m.) shifts, so please indicate when you are available.
Annual Kids Fishing Day
Get those fishing poles ready for the Annual Kids Fishing Day, Sunday, May 6, at the Bogachiel Rearing Pond from 6 a.m.-noon. The event is open to children 13 and younger and is sponsored by the West End Sportsmen’s Club.
Book discussion of “The Collector “by Jack Nisbet at the Forks Branch Library
Inspire your inner scientist at the Forks Branch Library’s Science Saturday Book Discussion Group! Read, explore, and discuss a broad range of popular science-themed titles.
No reservations are needed and you may attend as often as you wish. The Science Saturday Book Discussion Group meets at the Forks Branch Library of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) every first Saturday of the month at noon.
On Saturday, May 5, the group will meet to discuss “The Collector: David Douglas and the Natural History of the Northwest by Jack Nisbet.” The story of David Douglas, the premier botanical explorer in the Pacific Northwest and other areas of western North America. Douglas’ discoveries include hundreds of western plants — most notably the Douglas Fir. “The Collector” tracks Douglas, from his humble birth in Scotland in 1799 to his botanical training under the famed William Jackson Hooker to his adventures in North America discovering “exotic” new plants for the English and European market.
Copies of The Collector are available in various formats including regular print, large print, audiobook on CD and downloadable eBook, which may be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org. A limited number of copies of each book discussion selection are available at the Library the month prior to each meeting. Hunter Education
Scholarship
A $2,500 scholarship is available for high school juniors an seniors who have attained a Hunter Education Certificate, application deadline is June 9, (high school juniors and seniors at the time of the deadline date). For more information, go to the WDFW website, follow the prompts to hunting, hunter education and look for International Hunter Education Assoc., USA to find the application and details. Music Scholarship
Monday Musicale is inviting Clallam County high school seniors who are going on to major or minor in music or continue private music lessons to apply and audition for a music scholarship.
First place, in honor of Richard McCoy is $3,000. Second place is $2,000 and third is $1,000.
Auditions are at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 6, at First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. 5th St., Port Angeles. Three professional musicians will serve as adjudicators.
Intrumentalists should prepare a classical piece not to exceed 10 minutes. Vocalists should have two selections of varied style. Applications are available from the school’s scholarship counselor. Homeschool students can call Margot Hewitt, Scholarship Chair, for an application at 360-457-4494.
