Preventing Child
Abduction
The Hoh Tribe and Peninsula College will offer a day-long program on preventing child abduction on Friday, June 22 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the College, 481 S. Forks Ave.
The Forks Police Department, Dept. of Corrections, Clallam County Sheriffs’ Office, Washington State Patrol, FBI and Homeland Security will be participating.
The event hopes to educate, spread awareness and answer questions for parents and children about child abduction. There will be several breakout sessions through the day and lots of educational activities.

4th of July Art, Craft and Photo Show
The 4th of July Art, Craft, and Photo Show is seeking entries, July 3, between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Rainforest Art Center. Entry forms may be picked up at Home Slice Take and Bake Pizza, Forks Library, and Sunsets West Co-op in Clallam Bay.
The artist may enter four art and/or four photos, the fee is $15. There is a separate junior division for those under 18 years old, no fee for junior division. The photo show has two categories; photos not enhanced except for cropping and those that have been enhanced. All art and photos must be framed and ready for hanging with screw eyes and wires. Craft; you may enter as many different items but only two of the same type i.e. embroidered pillow cases or lace tablecloth. Please pick up an entry form for more information. Pick up is between 4-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 8.
Quileute Head Start

The Quileute Head Start program provides Childhood classes four days a week for three to five-year-old children with a focus on: phonemic awareness, literacy, writing, math, science, nutrition, safety, and social studies, Quileute language and culture. Dental, vision, hearing, and developmental screenings, Family support services, services for children with developmental, physical, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
Transportation to and from school via bus is provided and Breakfast, lunch, and snack.

of God VBS
Forks Assembly of God, 81 Huckleberry Lane, will hold its annual Vacation Bible School Sunday, July 15, through Thursday, July 19, from 6-8:30 p.m. each day.
Fun activities are planned for children ages 4-11 years old.
Young life rummage sale
Young life is having their annual rummage sale Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., at the Family First Center across from Forks Outfitters. All proceeds go towards local teens attending YL summer camp!
Chamber Program Change
On June 20, Clallam County PUD Commissioner Ted Simpson will be the program. Simpson is running for re-election. On June 27, Clallam County Commissioner District III, Bill Peach, will be the guest speaker. Peach is running for his position again.
The Forks Chamber of Commerce meets at noon, on Wednesdays, at Blakeslee’s Bar and Grill.
The Forks Chamber will take a summer break in July and August and meetings will resume on Sept. 5. Chamber meetings are open to the public and new members are always welcome.
New Fourth of July Event
An Archery Tag tournament is being organized for Saturday, June 30 at Tillicum Park. The tournament is being sponsored by the Forks Old Fashioned 4th of July Committee and organized by FPD Chief Mike Rowley. Proceeds from this tournament will go to support “Chief for the Day” Orlando. Teams will be five-person teams consisting of players 12 years and older. Cost will be $5 a person or $25 per team.

Archery tag requires no athletic ability or prior skill, offers an interactive experience that is more physical than other activities like laser tag, a safe, family-oriented sport that satisfies the competitive spirit as well as the thrill seeker. Prenatal Drug and Alcohol Exposure: The Lifelong Impact
The Second-Annual Hoh Tribe Prevention Week will present Prenatal Drug and Alcohol Exposure: The Lifelong Impact, on Thursday, June 21 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Hoh Tribal gym, 2464 Lower Hoh Road.
The presenter will be Christine Miko, MS, Parent-Child Assistance Program, First Step Family Support Center.

Foster Parent Training
Caregiver Core Training will be offered in eight sessions at the Conference Room, DCFS Office, 915 Sheridan St., Port Townsend on July 7-8 and July 14-15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.
Sessions are designed to help understand how the system works, what your role is, working with birth families, child development, honoring a child’s culture. The sessions include the voices of former foster youth, current caregivers and birth parents that have been in the system.

Prospective Foster Parents must complete Orientation training prior to attending Caregiver Core Training. Orientation is designed to help guide participants through the licensing process and provide a brief overview on what foster parenting is all about. You will meet other prospective foster parents and will have a licensor available to answer any questions you may have.
The licensor will discuss the minimum licensing requirements and help you with required paperwork. Licensing application packets will be provided. Orientation can be completed online, however attending an in-person class is encouraged; its the best opportunity to ask any questions you have.
