Deep cuts in state revenue and spending could drastically impact services at Forks Community Hospital.

The state House of Representatives is considering House Bill 2130, a bill that would cut federal Medicare dollars that come to the rural “critical acsess” hospital through the State of Washington. A critical access hospital is defined as one that has less than 25 beds.

The bill was introduced by state Rep. Eileen Cody, (D-Vashon Island are District 34), and by  state Rep. Ross Hunter, (D-Bellevue region District 38), areas where larger hospitals are located.

The Medicare dollars pay for services for the poor and uninsured.

The cuts would trim about $1.5 million in funds coming into the hospital. 

Forks Community Hospital Administrator Camille Scott is asking local state Senate and state Representatives from District 24 to oppose the bill.

Scott is urging local residents to contact District 24 state Reps. Kevin Van de Wege and Steve Tharinger to show support for defeating the bill.

If implemented, the bill could force some patients to travel to bigger hospitals for medical service.
