Clallam County seeks volunteers for various boards/committees

The Board of Clallam County Commissioners announces openings on Advisory Boards and Committees. Specific categories are noted where applicable.

AGRICULTURAL

COMMISSION (6)

Acts in an advisory capacity to research agricultural issues, provide information, and convey the interests and desires of farmers and others in the agricultural community to the Board of Commissioners. There are openings for representatives of Farmers in Commissioner Districts I, II, and III; At-large farmer, and (2) Nonfarmer At-large.

ANIMAL ISSUES ADVISORY COMMITTEE (8)

Serves as a liaison between the County and the contractor for animal shelter services and as an objective, factfinding body when the Board, the contractor, or the Sheriff’s Office requests the advice of the committee. There are openings for representatives of Districts I, II, and III; Tribal Government, Veterinarian, Equine, At-large and Friends of Forks Animals.

BOARD OF HEALTH (2)

Responsible for all matters pertaining to the preservation of the life and health of the citizens of Clallam County, including community health assessment, health status, preventable health risks, availability of resources; enacting rules, regulations, and policies to preserve, promote, and improve the health status of Clallam County residents; assure high quality and effective public health services including control and prevention of any dangerous, contagious, or infectious diseases; prevention, control, and abatement of nuisances detrimental to public health; enforce public health statutes of the state and county; establish fee schedules for issuing and renewing licenses and permits or for other services authorized by the law and rules of the Washington State Board of Health. There are openings for representatives of a City Council Member and Hospital District Commissioner.

BOUNDARY REVIEW

BOARD (3)

Autonomous board that, upon request by any jurisdiction affected by a boundary change such as an annexation proposal, reviews the proposal and has broad powers to determine logical boundaries, transfer of services, and other matters operating under the authority of RCW 36.93. There are openings for representatives of (2) Governor Appointees and a Special District Appointee.

BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS (4)

Hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the Building Official relative to the application and interpretation of the codes adopted in Clallam County Code 21.01, Building and Construction Code. There are openings for representatives of (2) Alternate, General Contractor, and an ICC Certified Building Official, Building Inspector, or Plans Examiner.

CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY/MENTAL HEALTH (CD/MH) PROGRAM FUND ADVISORY BOARD (10)

Established to act to advise the Board of Commissioners on implementation and future funding, from the 1/10 of 1 percent sales tax authorized by RCW 82.14.460. There are openings for representatives of City Law Enforcement, Hospital District, Agency delivering subsidized mental health services, Agency delivering subsidized chemical dependency services, Private provider of mental health services not contracting for funding, Private provider of chemical dependency services not contracting for funding, Advocate for chemical dependency/mental health services, Services for homeless, At-large and Salish Behavioral Health Organization.

CLALLAM BAY/SEKIU COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM (4)

Assists in gathering and analyzing information, making recommendations, and advancing the orderly growth and development of the area. There is an opening for representatives of (3) At-large positions and Senior Community.

CLALLAM BAY/SEKIU SEWER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (2)

Responsible for gathering accurate information regarding Clallam Bay-Sekiu sewer operations, rates and billing procedures, and making recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. There are openings for representatives of two committee member positions.

DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ADVISORY COMMITTEE (8)

Volunteers act in an advisory capacity to plan and make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners and the Department of Health and Human Services regarding programs and services for persons who have intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, other neurological impairments, or developmental disabilities and their families through service contracts with provider agencies. There are openings for eight committee member positions.

HOMELESSNESS TASK FORCE (13)

The Board is responsible for advising the Clallam County Commissioners on various matters related to the issues regarding homelessness in Clallam County. There are openings for representatives of HHS Department, City Government, Tribal Government, Peninsula Housing Authority, Mental Health/Chemical Dependency Providers, Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Providers, West End Service Providers, Olympic Community Action Programs, WorkSource, (2) Homeless or Formerly Homeless, At-large, and Advocate for Youth Issue.

LODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE (LTAC) (1)

Statute requires an advisory committee to review all proposed changes to expenditures from the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund and to make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. There is an opening for a representative of Collector of the tax.

MARINE RESOURCES COMMITTEE (1)

The Marine Resource Committee advises the County Commissioners regarding issues related to the marine resources of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and its bays, estuaries, and inlets within the borders of Clallam County. There is an opening for a representative of Marine Trade.

NORTH OLYMPIC LIBRARY SYSTEM (1)

The Clallam County Rural Library District, known as the North Olympic Library System, provides services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the county and annexed cities and towns. It is governed by a fivemember Board of Trustees and administered by a Library Director. There is an opening for a representative of one member position.

NORTH PACIFIC COAST MARINE RESOURCES (1)

Assists in understanding, stewarding, and restoring the marine and estuarine ecological processes of the North Pacific coast of Washington within the boundaries of Clallam and Jefferson Counties in support of ecosystem health, sustainable marine resource-based livelihoods, cultural integrity, and coastal communities. Members represent conservation/environmental groups, recreational groups, economic groups and the scientific community. There is an open position for a Clallam County Citizen (Conservation/Environmental Groups).

OLYMPIC AREA AGENCY ON AGING (03A) ADVISORY COUNCIL (1)

Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) seeks Clallam County members for Advisory Council. O3A coordinates aging & long-term care services for seniors & adults with disabilities in Clallam/Jefferson/Grays Harbor/Pacific. Contact Carol Ann, 360-379-5064, laaseca@dshs.wa.gov for more info. Monthly meetings held in Shelton; mileage reimbursed and lunch included. There is an open position for one member.

PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD (1)

Assists the County in delivery of park and recreation services to its residents and visitors. Under the direction of the Board of Commissioners through the Director of Parks, Fair, and Facilities, the advisory board holds public meetings as necessary, advises and assists the County in developing reasonable rules, fees, and regulations for the operation of County Parks and other recreational facilities, and reviews park acquisitions and development strategies. There is an opening for one representative.

PERMIT ADVISORY BOARD (5)

Makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners and Director of the Department of Community Development for changes in the building code and permitting. There are open positions for representatives of Building Designer, Building Trades, Environmental Consultant, Propane/Woodstove Contractor, and Manufactured Homes/Mobile Home Association.

PLANNING COMMISSION (3)

The Planning Commission assists the Clallam County Board of Commissioners, through the Department of Community Development (DCD), with review of land use policy and related issues such as comprehensive land use plans and planning ordinances. Commissioners must have the ability to listen to diverse viewpoints and consider long-term interests of Clallam County. There are openings for representatives of District I c, District II b and District III c.

SHERIFF’S CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE (9)

Advisory to the Sheriff’s Office to provide an open link of communication between the Sheriff and the community. There are openings for representatives of City of Sequim, Clallam Bay/Sekiu, Forks and unincorporated area, Quileute Tribe, Makah Tribe, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, Law and Justice, and (2) At-large member.

SOLID WASTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (5)

This committee is comprised of representatives of each of the incorporated cities, the waste industry, tribal councils, Clallam County, state and federal agencies, private industry, and at-large. The committee assists in the implementation of programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal, and reviews and comments on proposed changes to the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan. There are openings for representatives of Solid Waste Industry (West Waste Recycling) Alternate, Solid Waste Industry (Waste Connection), Tribal Government Alternate, City of Forks Alternate, and Business Community Alternate.

TRAILS ADVISORY COMMITTEE (14)

Makes recommendations to the Board and other appointed bodies of Clallam County government regarding non-motorized transportation and trail-related issues. There are openings for a representatives of Sequim Area Trails Advocacy Group, Port Angeles Area Trails Advocacy Group, Western Area Trails Advocacy Group, Straits Area Trials Advocacy, Olympic National Park, Department of Natural Resources, Large Private Forest Company, City of Port Angeles, City of Sequim, Backcountry Horsemen (Alternate), Off-Road Motorized User Groups, U.S. Forest Service (ex-officio member), Backcountry Horsemen, and Peninsula Trails Coalition.
