The results of the District Court II Judge recount were certified Friday, Dec. 7. The results confirmed Erik Rohrer received the most votes and is the winner.
The recount was conducted at the request of candidate John Black, who filed an application for a manual recount in accordance with RCW 29A.64.011. The recount process and the meetings of the Canvassing Board were open to the public.
The recount process involved first pulling out all of the ballots for the eight precincts in District Court II, and then sorting the ballots into precincts. Elections staff from the Clallam County Auditor’s Office worked in teams of two to identify, sort, review, and count by hand the ballots. Ballots were counted first by precinct and then sorted again within each precinct to identify votes for each position in the race. Votes for each position in the precinct were then counted by two different team members. The hand count results for each position in each precinct were then compared to the machine count.
No discrepancies were found in conducting the manual recount. The manual count matched the machine count exactly for every precinct in District Court II and for each position.
