Each year, for a number of years now, the Olympic Corrections Center has offered a contest for offenders at the facility to design the Forks Old Fashioned 4th of July button.
This year James Rimmer’s design has taken top honors and will represent the 2019 celebration.
Rimmer said, “I am pleased to participate in the design of the Forks 4th of July button, it is an honor to help the community of Forks raise money.”
“I started drawing in 2011, with so much time on my hands I put it towards positive use, and with determination, I self-taught myself how to draw portraits,” Rimmer added.
Once the design is selected the inmates at OCC also make the buttons. Buttons will be on sale around town a few weeks before the 4th at local businesses and at the West End Youth League fireworks stand, watch for the fireworks stand at a new location this year!
As in the past, buttons are $1 and their sale helps to fund the fireworks show at Tillicum Park.
