The Forks Old-Fashioned Horseshoes Tournament was held at 9 a.m., Saturday at Tillicum Park in Forks. There were 46 players this year throwing shoes on a pleasant, overcast day.
The winner’s bracket had a lot of highly competitive matches in which the team of Carl Windle and Jr Dean emerged undefeated awaiting the final match.
In the losers bracket, the team of Jeff Alborn and Floyd McCoy had to win a rematch with Troy Pearce and Wade McCoy in order to win the losers bracket and set up their own rematch with Windle and Dean in the final.
In the final Alborn and McCoy gave Windle and Dean their first loss forcing the “if needed” rematch for the title.
The title game was the third time those two teams had played each other that day and it was yet another great game with Windle and Dean coming out on top with Windle hitting a pair of double ringers.
Windle and Dean claimed their first title as a team and the top prize of $200.
Many thanks to the City of Forks maintenance staff for prepping the pits as well as Vic Whitehead and Whitehead’s Auto Parts, Forks Outfitters, Budweiser for donating door prizes and Pepsi for donating T-shirts.
As the FHS Class of 1988 is represented in the top three positions we hereby are challenging all other classes to do your best next year and claim the throne!
