Dear Editor,
Noticed there is no longer the springtime chorus? Birds are vanishing.
We have no poisons in our yard. Electric mower. Companion plantings (just discovered: wild tobacco + basil = NO aphids and huge plants). Replacing grass with clover and oregano (not hard; dig a scatter of holes, toss in seeds; no poisons for kids or pets, either!). Planted bird-berry ornamentals. Wasps on the house? You got a garden hose – use it; they’ll quit.
Can you outdo us making the West End poison-free for birds? Share your good ideas!
We should have a contest!
