Michael Trebert announces Five National Awards at the Annual “George Washington” Tea

The local Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is announcing five areas of National categories to Port Angeles and Sequim community awards at the Annual George Washington Recognition Tea Ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 17. The categories support the three missions of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution: Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism.

Together with General George Washington in attendance and 12 Michael Trebert Daughters awardees recognized the following:

Education: American History: Very Important Patriot: 8-year-old Ivan Cortani contributed to the community in an outstanding manner through participating in community activities, particularly two ceremonies, Sequim Veterans Day and Sequim Wreaths Across America. Ivan demonstrated learning about American History & the fundamental principles upon which our nation was founded; Ivan also respected the Pledge of Allegiance and the Flag of the United States of America; and lastly, 8-year-old Ivan showed courtesy and respect for others.

Patriotism: National Defense: Meagan McCann is the 2020 recipient of the Bronze ROTC Medal. The medal is awarded to either a junior or senior student in the Port Angeles High School JROTC program, as qualified by Capt. Picker.

Education, Historic Preservation, Patriotism: Newspaper Publishing: The Sequim Gazette is recognized as a newspaper for outstanding work that repeatedly promotes education, historic preservation, and patriotism. Michael Daishell, Editor accepted the award.

Education, Historic Preservation, Patriotism: Radio Broadcasting: KSQM 91.5 FM is recognized as a broadcasting radio for repeatedly announcing and promoting local education opportunities, historic preservation, and continued patriotism. Announcer, Susan Sorenson accepted the award.

Education and Patriotism: The Flag of the United States of America: Mt. Pleasant I.G.S Store in Port Angeles is recognized as a local business that shows correct usage for their respectful flying of the Flag of the United States. The US Flag has stood, lighted at I.G.S. Store in Port Angeles since 1959. I.G.S. is owned by Glenn & Kathy Johnson and they will be accepting the award.
