A young group of Forks Spartans is taking the Class 2B Pacific League by storm after two doubleheader softball sweeps this week.

Forks dusted South Bend 15-1 and 16-4 and hooked the Ilwaco Fishermen 16-3 and 6-0 at home in Beaver on Thursday.

The Spartans (4-0) have been playing without injured senior Kray Horton and juniors Aspen Rondeau and Nicole Winger, all returners from Forks’ run to the Class 1A state semifinals in 2019.

Forks coach Traci Kratzer said freshmen Keira Johnson and Kaidence Rigby have done well in their spots in the lineup.

Against Ilwaco, Chloe Leverington pitched three innings in each game and also helped herself out at the plate with a couple of big blasts.

“Chloe Leverington, besides pitching great, she hit two home runs against Ilwaco,” Kratzer said. Leverington had a home run and a double in Game 1 and added her second home run in Game 2.

Kyrissa Duncan had a big triple and Kadie Wood and Elizabeth Soto had solid pitching performances in relief of Leverington.

“Kadie Wood has been a very, very solid player all around. She has a good attitude and is really upbeat,” Kratzer said.

Annika Leverington and Kyra Neel each had doubles in Game 1, while Colbie Rancourt had a triple. In Game 2, Soto hit a double while Kyrisa Duncan had a triple.

The Spartans were to host Raymond in a doubleheader Tuesday.
