Monday Musicale is pleased to announce the winners of its annual music scholarships. This year the applicants submitted performance videos which were reviewed by a panel of independent judges composed of Jarrett Hansen, Director of Bands, Port Angeles High School, Sandi Lockwood with the band Just In Time, and Sarah Shea, a piano teacher with Dungeness Music and a local vocal performer.

The scholarship committee, based on the judges’ recommendations, awarded the following scholarships: 1st place, Madeline Dietzman of Sequim, $2,500;

2nd place, William Plasch of Sequim, $2,000; and 3rd place, Katherine Cobb of Port Angeles, $1,500.

Madeline Dietzman, a senior at Sequim High School, sang “Caro Mio Ben” by Giuseppe Giordani, “On My Own” from Les Misérables by Schönberg, and “Inside” (an original song). She was accompa- nied by John K. Lorentzen and accompanied herself for the last piece. She plans to study Psychology/ Theater at Western Washington University.

William Plasch, also a senior at Sequim High School, performed “Parody” by Jesse Monkman, on the marimba. He plans to major in Science and minor in Music at the University of Washington, Tacoma.

Katherine Cobb, a senior at Port Angeles High School, sang “Wie Melodien Zieht Es Mir” by Johannes Brahms, and “Chanson Francaise” by Maurice Ravel. Her accompanist was Jolene Dalton Gailey. Katherine plans to study Musical Performance/Performing Arts at Western Washington University.

Monday Musicale has been awarding scholarships since 1968 to high school seniors from Clallam County.
