Dear Editor,
Thank you to the community of Forks and the surrounding area for their amazing support for Relay for Life over the past 13 years. I can’t express how grateful we are for all the leadership, time and generosity that has been given throughout the community. Because of you, the American Cancer Society is able to make an impact on so many lives — those who are currently battling cancer, those who may face a diagnosis and those who may avoid a diagnosis thanks to education, prevention and early detection.
Cancer is a word none of us want to hear. When we hear it in our community it has a face. It’s a mother, father, son, daughter, wife, husband, friend, neighbor, sister, brother, co-worker. It is someone we know. They deal with cancer 24/7. It is up to us, it is our job, to give them HOPE.
It is time to get Relay for Life 2016 off and running. We need your help. I am stepping down as chair of the event and the community needs someone to fill that position. We have many people who have been filling several positions for many years who need to step down as well.
I am not sure how cancer has affected you, but, let me tell you how you can affect cancer. YOU can step up to the plate. YOU can be part of the Relay for Life committee. YOU can form a team. YOU can be part of the cure and make a difference.
Our community is blessed with wonderful, generous people and businesses who work hard to make Forks a community to be proud of. We are fortunate to live in a place where people take care of each other; where if there is a need, we step up to the plate; where no task is too big or too small to be ignored. We give back because of our jobs, our love and care for each other, because it is the right thing to do.
