Scholarship applications are now being accepted by Soroptimist International of Olympic Rain Forest (SIORF) for two nursing and other medical field education and training programs in 2022.

The Demorest Memorial Scholarship is for students entering or in a nursing program or other beginning medical program up to the level of a Registered Nurse. Any West End graduating high school senior or past graduate who currently has strong ties to the West End and is planning to attend a nursing program or training in a medical field may apply. Applicants must apply by May 1. A copy of a letter of acceptance into their program must be submitted to SIORF before the end of July 2022. Selections will be made in August and are for 2022-2023 school year.

The scholarship is funded by SIORF and given in honor of Diane Demorest. Diane grew up in Forks and worked as a family nurse practitioner on the West End. Diane was a member and past president of SIORF.

The Janet Marion Scholarship is a new scholarship established this year through donations made in memory of Janet Marion who passed away in 2021. Janet was a long-time Soroptimist member and worked many years as a nurse on the West End. Her son, David Marion, says his mother would be pleased to know a scholarship will be given to help nurses gain additional training and education in their field. This scholarship is for Registered Nurses already working on the West End who want to gain additional education or training to increase their skills and certifications. Applicants must apply by May 1 and subsequently, show a letter of acceptance into a degree or certification program before the end of July 2022.

Selections will be made in August. The scholarship must be used before the end of June 2023.
