I had the honor of attending the FHS 2018 Scholarship and Award Night Monday evening at the FHS Commons. It was a great evening of giving and wonderful to see all the organizations that continue to give back to the community through scholarships.
Some of those participating were: The Forks Chamber of Commerce (which I represented), Lions Club, Forks Elks Lodge/Emblem Club, Bogachiel Garden Club, Soroptimists and Concerned Citizens.
There were several memorial scholarships remembering Kassi Hansen and Nate Crippen, and one from the late former Forks resident Florence Ninke in memory of her husband Orville which was a music scholarship.
The Hull family that operated the West Ends’ first phone company continues to give back through scholarships.
Cheri Dahlgren, Edith Henry and JoMarie Miller presented the scholarships to the Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction Scholarship recipients. The record breaking funds raised this past March resulted in the awarding of $170,000 in aid to college-bound students, as well as some that requested funds for another year.
Other scholarships — local and out of area — were also presented, and Honor Roll and National Honor Society students were also recognized.
FHS senior Izaiah Calloway was recognized by Staff SSG Nicholas Evora; Izaiah will be entering the U.S. Army.
Congrats to the FHS Class of 2018!
Ask the Forks Forum
I am considering a new column called “Ask the Forks Forum.” I get phone calls each week where the person on the phone says, “I have a weird question.”
This week’s question:
“We recently moved into a home on the east side of Forks. We have two bathrooms and I placed the product called ‘Two Thousand Flushes’ in both toilets. It’s the stuff that turns the water blue. In one toilet the water is blue in the other it is pink! Does anyone know why this is happening?”
Call or email the Forks Forum with your answer, 360-374-3311 or cbaron@forksforum.com.
Thank you,
