Fifty years ago this week ITT Rayonier was preparing to open the Tumbling Rapids campground for the summer season. Employees had recently cleaned and prepared the area for the many that would use the modern restrooms and covered cooking area over the summer. The city council had approved six liquor license renewals for downtown Forks. Council member Chilson joked that he should abstain from voting since he regularly visited all six locations. In school board news Coach McElravy proposed that $10,000 be set aside in the budget to be used for building a new track.

In 1952 many La Push residents had traveled to the Quinault Derby to see traditional dugout canoe races. Aubrey Cleveland of La Push had placed first in the race. The Edwin Beebes had welcomed a son. A parade had formed at the Legion Hall and marched to the Forks cemetery for Memorial Day. Those participating were the VFW, American Legion, Brownies, Cub Scouts, and members of the Forks Wranglers Horse Club (photo). Miss Beverly Pooler had been selected as the Class of 1952 Valedictorian.
