This week in 1999 the Forks Police Department was urging residents to NOT leave their keys in their cars! Multiple car thefts could have been easily avoided including one from the Pay and Save parking lot. A new boat ramp on the Sol Duc had recently opened; a project between Rayonier, OPGA, and the Forks Lions Club (photo). Eugene Lodde a 1929 Quillayute Union High School grad had attended FHS graduation and was honored with a boutonniere. He was attending his grand-niece Sena Engeseth’s graduation (photo).
Fifty years ago this week the class of 1974 had seen 50 students graduate. Kevin Borde and Diane Demorest were the student speakers. Bonnie Guitar was appearing upstairs at the Vagabond. In bowling news, Gladys Allen was “Bowler of the Week.”
In 1952 the PUD was requesting an easement from the State so they could run power lines from Port Angeles to Forks. Forks Lions were giving away reflective tape for local kids to place on their bikes. The Lions had also been busy building bathhouses at the Lake Pleasant Community Beach. The Forks Library was planning to close for the month of July due to a reduction in tax funds that they were receiving. Cutbacks for the bookmobile were also planned.
