A Look Back …This week in the Forks Forum

This week in 1999 Russell Woodruff had cut the ribbon at the dedication of the new boat ramp at the La Push Marina (photo). A cougar had attacked a sleeping dog at a campsite at the Sol Duc Campground. The dog was okay and the cougar ran off. Sekiu was crowded with fishing boats. Football Coach Terry Jensen was putting the Spartans through their drills in preparation for the first game of the season against Castle Rock (photo).

In 1974 The Punky Caldwell Trio was performing at the Vagabond. Forks Forum/KVAC owner Gordon Otos was running for Clallam County District Three County Commissioner. Forks Elks members were meeting at the Vagabond and seeking new members and prepping for the near future when the Forks Lodge would be instituted. The Emblem Club was also gearing up.

The new, modern Forks Grade School was ready for students, for the first day of school on Sept. 2, 1952. It was to house first through fifth grades. The cafeteria and playroom still had some finishing work to be done. Serviceman Rocky Fletcher had written home to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fletcher relating some of his experiences in Korea including his run-in with a large snake.
