Twenty-five years ago this week Makah tribal elder Isabelle Ides was to celebrate her 100th birthday! This week in 1974, Forks Ambulance Drivers had held an awards dinner. Little League football photos had been featured in a full-page ad (photo). Port Townsend artist Wally Exum had stopped by Forks State Bank to autograph copies of sketches he had done of area scenery. The sketches were to be used on the Bank’s new personalized checks. The first Baptist church was celebrating the completion of its newly renovated sanctuary.
In 1952 it was reported that a group of three burglars ages 7-11 years had been apprehended and had confessed to 13 burglaries. They had broken into the Pay and Save, Assembly of God Church, the Legion Hall, and several homes and they broke into the Forks Post Office five times! The junior thieves had taken money and jewelry. In business news Jack Orr had sold Tyee Recreation to Ken Schier; it would now be called Ken’s Tavern. Mrs. Pat Klahn reported to the Forum that her apple tree was blooming in November. Sportsman’s Club members had viewed plans for a new clubhouse at their monthly meeting. In display ads, the new ‘53 Kaiser was in at Anderson’s K-F Motors.
