A Look Back …This week in the Forks Forum

This week in 1999 locals were a little shocked as 6.5 inches of rain had fallen and left downtown streets flooded. In addition to flooded streets many buildings including city hall were looking for sandbags. The Nolan Creek Bridge south had partially washed out and Hwys 112 and 110 were closed at times. The Coast Guard and students who were sent home from school helped with the sandbag efforts (photo). It was sad news for the community that Milton Smith had passed from cancer in Illinois. He had made many friends in Forks during his time as a Chef at Miller Tree Inn. Little Bit of Everything 4-H Club had donated $475 to Forks Elementary to help students in need (photo).

This week in 1974 C. E. Lunsford had been named Forks State Bank VP and Manager (photo). The city house number project was continuing. Residents were responsible for getting their own numbers. The Forks Variety Store was advertising Tonka Mighty Dump Trucks on special for $6.77 and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for $3.44. The Spartan basketball team had taken on Clallam Bay. The Henry Bechtold home had won 1st place window display with a painting of the Little Drummer Boy.

This week in 1952 it was reported the Ronald Shearer family had welcomed their first daughter, Susan Louise, she was born at the Olympic Clinic in Forks. The Leroy Johnson family had also welcomed a daughter at the Olympic Memorial in Port Angeles, Cindy Rosann. In classified ads, Joe McReynolds had a logging arch for sale. August Slather was offering a 1946 Chev Carryall 10-passenger vehicle.
