This week in 1999 a front-page feature photo showed that Fire Departments from Forks, Beaver, Quillayute, and Joyce had taken part in a practice/controlled burn of the Calawah Apartments aka the Pink Projects (photo). In police calls it was reported that “cruisers” were blocking the entrance to Tillicum Park/Lane. With the recent storm damage to the FHS PAC the school board had approved a complete renovation of the building.
In 1974 sports photographer Lonnie Archibald had captured a photo of Spartan Larry Woody shooting an over-his-back-side-ways-shot at the basket …and he made it (photo)! In doing a good deed neighborhood friends Mark Raben, Greg Howard, Doug Vitcovich, and Wade and Clint Darrow had reported a broken water pipe at the new Campbell Addition pump house; cold temperatures quickly turned the flood into a free ice skating rink (photo).
In 1952 bids for the new grade school were due to be opened soon. Plans for the new building included 10 classrooms, a multi-purpose room, a playroom, a kitchen, a principal’s office, and a nurses’ office. The Forks American Legion Post had reported that they had 115 paid members as the year 1952 got underway. In community news, it was shared that Rocky Fletcher had visited his parents over the holidays and was heading back to Texas where he had been stationed. He was awaiting overseas orders. In other community news Forks pioneer Theodore “Dad” Klahn had celebrated his 87th birthday with a big party!
