This week twenty-five years ago it was Girl Scout cookie time, Anna Dickson and Lauren Bergstrom of Brownie Troop 805 were set up at Thrifty Mart making some sales (photo). In the first round of counting ballots in the Pool vote was too close to call. Tinker’s Tales was planning a music night with Jim Stehn playing medieval to Bach and George Gershwin. FHS junior Darcy Stokes was a volunteer at the Forks Animal Shelter and was setting up outside Thrifty Mart with dogs that needed adopting (photo). Spartan Kacey Ulin was league player of the year.
Fifty years ago this week Forks residents Barney Engel, David Engel and James Amsdill had all recently graduated from the Naval Training Center in San Diego. The Forks Hospital was looking for donations of two rhododendrons and two loads of top soil. Also they were asking for people to stop by and pick up litter. The Forks Lions Club was sponsoring a Dale Carnegie classes, 40 people had been enrolled.
This week in 1953 Frank Henry had won the West End Sportsman’s Club’s Steelhead Derby. Henry’s steelhead weighed in at 21 pounds 14 ounces. The Forks High School Polio Drive had raised $700. A condemnation suit against the Forks Water Co. had been filed by the Town of Forks. The complaint stated that the town had been unable to agree with the water company on the purchase price.
