Baskets of cheer for Long-Term Care

Seventeen-year old Forks High School student Makenzie Weston decided that the residents at Forks’ Long-Term Care facility each needed to get a basket of goodies for Christmas. So she did it.

Weston got three donated prizes. Forks Outfitters donated a gift card, Dana’s Barber Shop donated a hot towel shave and Forks Hospital Physical Therapy donated a massage.

She then sold raffle tickets for the prizes. Meanwhile she gave the LTC residents questionnaires asking what types of items they would like in their baskets.

The money raised from the ticket sales went to purchase the items for the baskets. Last week three residents cozied up to the recently donated fireplace, a gift from John and Kay Glover, and each pulled one winning ticket out of a basket.

The winners were Jena Snell, Tina Tull and Lori Deadman.

As a special surprise, for those that wanted it, a piece of smoked fish was in their basket. The baskets were presented to the residents just before Christmas.
