Seventh and eighth-grade teams from Sequim Middle School, Stevens Middle School, Crescent School, Olympic Peninsula Academy, Markishtum Middle School, Quileute Tribal School, and Forks Junior High School will compete in a literary trivia competition at the Port Angeles Main Library of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). The Book Wars Final Competition will be held on Friday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. Students must check-in at 6:10 p.m.
Throughout the school year, students have read twelve books and competed in semi-final elimination rounds to prepare for this culminating event. Victorious team members at the final battle will win gift certificates to a local bookstore.
Books included in the competition are: Hey, Kiddo by Jarrett Krosoczka, Attucks! Oscar Robertson and the Basketball Team that Awakened a City by Phillip M. Hoose, The Assassination of Brangwain Spurge by M. T. Anderson and illustrated by Eugene Yelchin, The Only Road by Alexandra Díaz, Small Spaces by Katherine Arden, Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor, The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline, Lily and Dunkin by Donna Gephart, Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, The Seventh Most Important Thing by Shelley Pearsall, and The Benefits of Being an Octopus by Ann Braden.
The public is welcome to attend this fun community event. Book Wars is a joint program between local middle schools throughout the county and the North Olympic Library System. Funding for this program has been generously provided by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library, the Friends of Sequim Library, Friends of the Forks Library, and Sequim Middle School.
