CCFPD#1 responds to vehicle fire

On Aug. 8 at 5:37 p.m. Engine 91 was dispatched to a vehicle fire near Kallman Rd on Highway 101 blocking both lanes of traffic.

En route Engine 91 was updated by Aid-91 of Forks Ambulance, that the car was fully engulfed with all patients out of the vehicle and no injuries.

Upon arrival Engine 91 saw a fully engulfed mini-van with flames as high as the power lines, with multiple explosions due to propane tanks in the back of the van.

Engine 91 quickly knocked down the fire with additional foam and dry chemical fire extinguishers and monitored it for additional hotspots.

The firefighters of District #1 would like to remind the public to do just what the owners of this car did if you suspect there is a fire in your vehicle;

• First call 911

• Pull over at the nearest shoulder or pullout

• Put the vehicle in park

• Get everyone away from the vehicle and to the side of the vehicle – stay away from the front and the back of the car if possible, even at a distance struts can and will burst due to the highly condensed gas cylinders in them.
