A Charter Review Commission Candidates’ Listening Session and Forum was held Friday, Sept. 20 at the Clallam Bay Sekiu Lions Club in Clallam Bay, WA.
Some of the topics of concern from those present:
One gentleman, thinking of moving to the area, is frustrated about building and location code restrictions.
Regarding the county application for employment, add a portion about emotional abuse in the workplace. Make it punishable!
Add equity in distribution of funds to departments from the county budget.
Living wages and employment opportunities to keep people from moving away and school population getting smaller. (150 students in Clallam Bay School).
A lot of concern over tax increases, sewer permits, land use permits and regulations on Septic systems.
Population shift due to climate change.
Need to allow more logging to sustain job market for residents.
Concern was mentioned – regarding Smart Meters and 5G. One woman talked about a very informative meeting that she attended on this issue, in Jefferson County. She is a retired RN and has a lot of concern about their threat to public health.
Emergency disaster planning that will provide contingent mitigation plans to combat, climate change, earthquakes, forest fires due to drought and rise of sea level due to glacial melt and flooding caused by warmer temps and no year-round snowpack.
Concern over women’s rights and sexual assault against women.
Concern about road conditions on Highway 112, extended power outages, lack of maintenance, parking, and camping in non- designated areas, health care programs inadequate to meet the needs of residents.
