The Department of Corrections has announced its statewide and local winners of the Annual Agency Awards. The winners were to be recognized Wednesday, May 23 at a ceremony in Tumwater.

Statewide Awards
DOC Valor Award – Denny Goudie: Denny Goudie has worked at Clallam Bay Corrections Center since 2001. He was nominated for this award for the actions he took during a hostage situation at the prison in 2011. Goudy physically intervened with one of two hostage takers during the incident and put the safety of the facility ahead of his own. He was instrumental in alerting staff to the situation and helping to evacuate over 100 non-involved offenders from the incident site.
Statewide Team Award – All Critical Incident Stress Management Teams (CISM): CISM is a “peer–driven” crisis intervention system that provides individuals involved in a critical incident an opportunity to talk about the event in a confidential setting, understand what common reactions may occur following that event, and provide education about effective stress management strategies. The Department of Corrections recognizes the need for CISM services following work–related critical incidents and significant events. The teams may respond to incidents within the facility itself but also responds to community incidents when the need arises.
Members from Clallam Bay are Brian Adler, Barbara Bannan, Amber Bates, Marie DeOng, Faye Nicholas and Dorinda Wall.
Prisons Command Awards
Correctional Officer of the Year – Michael T. Erlenmeyer: Correctional Officer Mike Erlenmeyer was selected for this award due to his professionalism, attitude and willingness to help new staff learn what being an officer is all about. He has mastered the skills of his position and has taken on any task asked of him. Officer Erlenmeyer is a valued employee and has worked for Clallam Bay Corrections Center since 2007.
Support Staff of the Year – Kathy Eubank: Secretary Supervisor Kathy Eubank provides excellent secretarial services and assistance in facilitating the work of the Superintendent’s office. Eubank brings humor to the meeting table which makes others feel at ease. Her professionalism, knowledge and willingness to assist in any capacity have made her a valuable asset to Clallam Bay and DOC. She is well deserving of this award and has worked for Clallam Bay Corrections Center since 1994.
Health Services Supervisor of the Year – Katrina Henry: Medical Unit Secretary Supervisor Katrina Henry oversees the work of secretaries and keeps the medical unit focused on providing patient care. Henry is innovative in problem solving and absorbs any necessary responsibilities. Her willingness to step up and do what is needed at any time earns great respect from her staff.
Volunteer of the Year – Robert “Bob” Phillips: Phillips has been volunteering at Clallam Bay since 1999, working with the offenders in religious programs. Mr. Phillips comes to the facility as a religious volunteer in two separate programs. He is respected by everyone. He brings a positive attitude, enthusiasm and inspiration to all he works with.
Local Awards
In addition to statewide awards, Clallam Bay also recognizes staff members at the local level with a ceremony hosted at the facility.
Employee of the Year – Bradley “Brad” Hatt: Sergeant Brad Hatt has worked at Clallam Bay Corrections Center since 1988. He is currently the armory sergeant. and conducts all firearms training along with other yearly trainings for staff. His quick and decisive actions during the June 29, 2011 escape attempt prevented an escape and protected the community from two dangerous criminals.
Supervisor of the Year – Paul Aguilar: Paul Aguilar is a unit Sergeant who has worked at Clallam Bay Corrections Center since 1993. Sergeant Aguilar is a skilled supervisor who enjoys training new staff. He leads by example and wouldn’t ask his staff to do anything he wouldn’t do himself. He is fair, firm and consistent with offenders which gains him the respect needed to run a unit.
Counselor of the Year – Kurt Grubb: Classification Counselor Kurt Grubb manages a caseload of 75 offenders, monitors the classification process, and facilitates a parenting class for offenders. He also manages the incentive program portion of offender orientation. Kurt began his career at Clallam Bay in 1993 as a correctional officer.
Clallam Bay Corrections Center Team of the Year: First Responders to the escape attempt on June 29, 2011: Staff response to this incident was exceptional way to ensure safety of the community, staff and offenders and prevented two dangerous felons from escaping.
