Clallam Bay High School has announced the scholarships and awards received by the school’s 2013 graduates.

Kris Hanson, the teacher/counselor/athletic director at the school, said through the efforts of various organizations and local community involvement the Clallam Bay Class of 2013 was awarded approximately $272,000 in financial assistance.

Valedictorian Megan Wonderly tops the list, with an astonishing $122,960 in financial aid.

That includes $28,715 a year in scholarships and grants from Pacific Lutheran University. She also picked up $3,600 from Washington State School Retirees, $1,000 from the Scottish Rite Organization, $1,000 from the Charlotte M. Kirby Foundation, $1,000 from the Rocky Hinkle Memorial Scholarship, $500 from the West End Youth & Community Center, $500 from the Herb and Marlyn Olsen Foundation and $500 from the Presbyterian Church.

Salutatorian Joey Larrechea will receive $20,500 in financial aid, including $10,000 from the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship, $2,500 from the “state level” of the Elks Foundation, a $1,500 Mac and Phyllis Munro Memorial Fund Scholarship and a $1,000 Washington State Opportunity Scholarship.

Justin Welever picked up $73,180 in financial aid, including $18,295 in scholarships and grants yearly from Aurora University in Aurora, Ill., and $1,000 from the Sekiu Lions Club.

Donald Hanson will receive $47,200 in scholarships and grants from Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He will receive another $5,750 from other foundations and sources, including $500 from the West End Seniors and $250 from the Clallam Bay/Sekiu Chamber of Commerce.

Hanson said, “To the individuals, organizations and community members that provide scholarship funds for the graduates of Clallam Bay High School, we thank you. Your help is greatly appreciated and provides much needed assistance for our graduates to attend college and further the educational goals. Congratulations, Class of 2013.”
