The Olympic Discovery Trail and some FS roads will experience closures through September 2016.
A temporary road and trail closure is planned for Forest Service Road (FSR) 2929-070 from M.P. 0.0 to M.P. 2.9, located approximately 32 miles northeast of Forks, WA, on Olympic National Forest’s Pacific Ranger District. Forest Service Road (FSR) 2929 from M.P. 9.7 to M.P. 11.1 will also be affected by hauling activity during the duration of the sale.
The FSR 2929-070 is part of the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT), and involves a coordinated closure with Clallam County. The road is closed to public vehicle access at all times. The ODT will be closed to all access at specific times to ensure public safety when timber falling operations for the Rail 2 Timber Sale are underway. This closure may begin as soon as May 12, 2016 and is expected to last until approximately September 1, 2016.
The ODT will be open on weekends from Friday 4:30 p.m. through Monday 6 a.m. and on Federal holidays 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During periods of ODT closure, trail users will be rerouted along Highway 101 between mileposts 212.0 and 216.4, or FSR 2918 and Cooper Ranch Road. Please refer to the posted signs on the ODT.

Trail closure signs will be posted at the junction of Highway 101 and FSR 2918; the FSR 2929-070 gate; Cooper Ranch Road; and the ODT Trailhead. The trail closure status will also be published on the Olympic National Forest website at http://www.fs.usda.gov/olympic/.
The area is being thinned for habitat restoration; a combination of Douglas-fir, hemlock, and some hardwoods will be harvested. For additional information about the Rail 2 Timber Sale or this closure, please contact Molly Erickson at 360-374-1233, or the Pacific Ranger District at 360-374-6522.
